Cultural Note: This is the same grammatical glue as the 'selecting from a group' sense, just applied to substances rather than countable items -- मिट्टी में से पानी निकलना (mittii men se paanii nikalnaa, 'water seeping out of the soil') uses में से (men se) the same way as picking a mango from a basket. The underlying image is always 'inside something, then out of it.'
