Common Mistakes: 1) Learners often try to translate 'victim' directly with पीड़ित (piidit) in every context, but शिकार होना (shikaar honaa) is the far more natural, conversational choice for 'fell victim to / became a target of' -- e.g. धोखे का शिकार होना (dhokhe kaa shikaar honaa, 'to fall victim to fraud'). 2) The verb paired with this sense is always होना (honaa) (intransitive, 'to become'), not करना (karnaa) -- you don't 'do' शिकार in this sense, you 'become' it.
