Cultural Note: छब्बीस (chhabbiis) is most memorably associated with 26 January (chhabbiis janavrii, 'January 26th'), Republic Day, one of India's biggest national holidays -- so this number carries a strong patriotic association for most Hindi speakers, much like 'the Fourth' does for July 4th in the US.
Common Mistakes: 1) Learners sometimes try to build this compositionally from बीस (biis, twenty) plus छह (chhah, six), but Hindi numbers from 21-99 are memorized as single fused words, not calculated on the fly -- छब्बीस (chhabbiis) must simply be learned as its own item. 2) Note the spelling has a doubled ब (b) sound (chhabbiis), which learners sometimes drop, writing something closer to छबीस.
