Cultural Note: This phrase is inseparable in the Indian mind from the असहयोग आन्दोलन (asahyog aandolan, Non-Cooperation Movement) of 1920-22, when Gandhi urged Indians to withdraw cooperation from British institutions -- schools, courts, jobs, titles. Even today, calling something असहयोग (asahyog) rather than विरोध (virodh) carries a faint echo of that Gandhian, disciplined, non-violent register, so it tends to appear in political and civic contexts more than in casual complaints about people.
Common Mistakes: 1) Learners sometimes use के साथ (ke saath) where से (se) is the natural choice with this verb -- सरकार से असहयोग किया (sarkaar se asahyog kiyaa) sounds more native than सरकार के साथ असहयोग किया (sarkaar ke saath asahyog kiyaa). 2) This is almost always used about organized or deliberate withholding of cooperation, not casual unhelpfulness -- for a colleague who just won't help with a small task, native speakers would more likely say मदद नहीं करना (madad nahiin karnaa, to not help) rather than reaching for this heavier term.
