The fixed phrase हमेशा के लिए (hameshaa ke lie) carries a slightly more final, dramatic weight than plain हमेशा (hameshaa), closer to English 'forever, for good' than to a routine 'always'.
Common Mistakes: 1) Learners sometimes place हमेशा (hameshaa) at the very end of the sentence as English speakers do with 'always' -- in Hindi it usually sits right before the verb or right after the subject, e.g. वह हमेशा देर से आता है (vah hameshaa der se aataa hai, 'he always comes late'), not वह देर से आता है हमेशा. 2) हमेशा (hameshaa) does not take a postposition on its own the way a noun would; learners occasionally try to add के लिए (ke lie) after it out of habit ('for always'), but 'forever' in that sense is better expressed as हमेशा के लिए (hameshaa ke lie, 'forever, for good'), which is itself a fixed phrase, not a free combination.
